Beauty content has changed. It's no longer about flawless skin, picture-perfect setups, or meticulously polished commercials. Today's beauty audience wants something different. They want to see the product in action, discover how it looks on real skin, and experience that little moment of excitement when someone tries something new and genuinely loves it.

For essence's Fall/Winter 2025 campaign, the challenge was to tap into that behavior and create a content series that felt less like traditional beauty advertising and more like something you'd naturally stumble upon while scrolling through your favorite creator's feed.

The creative direction was simple: stop making ads that pretend to be content, and start making content people actually want to watch.

With Gen Z and young millennials at the heart of the audience, we developed a social-first approach inspired by the way beauty is genuinely consumed on Instagram and Snapchat. Think spontaneous product discoveries, satisfying swatches, authentic reactions, relatable beauty moments, and the kind of playful experimentation that makes you want to try a product yourself.

Visually, we moved away from the overly controlled aesthetics of traditional beauty campaigns, embracing a more casual, intimate, and creator-led style. Natural-feeling framing, close-up product interactions, playful transitions, and a relaxed on-camera energy helped shape content that felt spontaneous and approachable. The challenge was to make everything look effortless while being intentional about the creative decisions behind it.

Because making content feel genuinely unproduced takes a surprising amount of production thinking.

The result was a content series built around the personality of essence and the culture of its audience. Playful, relatable, and unapologetically social-native, it brought the brand closer to the creators and communities shaping beauty conversations online.

Less commercial. More creator energy. Still unmistakably essence.
